Dublin SFC Final - Match Report

St. Vincent's 0-12 St. Brigid's 1-07

The atmosphere was electric before the game and the crowd large reflecting the quality of the games on offer. For St. Vincents there was a hunger. 23 years without a senior title. For some who have never won a title this may seem bizarre but for Pat Gilroy & John Calvert the gap was too much for this proud club.

In truth St. Brigids didn't roll over. Up front Kevin Bonner & Paddy Andrews were a constant threat & Paddy's 5th minute goal kept the reds in contention in a 1st half return of only 2 scores. For Vinnies Kevin Golden, Mossy Quinn & Dermot Golden dominated & it was this potent forward line where the difference between the teams stood out. However undoubtedly the star of the show was "young" Ger Brennan the Vinnies #6. He orchestrated Vinnies moves and put his body on the line when he was needed. And we shouldn't forget keeper Michael Savage who denied Kevin Bonner's last second goalbound shot which won the game on the day.

No prouder man on the night was Vinnies manager Micky Whelan who had the honour of managing Vinnies last SFC success. Next up will be the Wicklow champions.
