St. Vincent's - All Ireland Club Football Champions 2008

St. Vincent's 1-11 Nemo Rangers 0-13

31 years after their first All-Ireland Club title, St. Vincent's led superbly by Mossy Quinn brought glory to the capital with a battling win over Cork's Nemo Rangers.

On a poignant day for half-back Pat Kelly, Vincents got off to a flier into the wind. Dermot Connolly was in great form and after a flick down from Giller he blasted home a goal in what would be the game's significant score. In defence Hugh Gill & Co. were outstanding, especially in the 1st half holding the Corkmen to only 4 points. Upfield Michael O'Shea & Hugh Coughlan were again at their best until a clash of heads with the Cork number 8 would eventually see Coughlan have to retire. At half time the Marion boys led 1-07 to 0-04 but with a strong wind into their face they new the game was far from over.

Nemo came out of the blocks in the 2nd half & 5 unanswered points made from some scary moments for Vincents. james Masters began moving out the field and with some superb scores had Vinnies on the ropes. But up stepped captain Quinn with two super points to settle the nerves. Michael Savage was called upon to pull the ball from the sky on a couple of occasions but with Diamond & Quinn prominent the final whistle brought shouts of joy echoing all around the capital.

Tomas Quinn ended the game on 7 points, topped the scoring charts for the campaign with 3-22, and proudly lifted the Andy Merrigan Cup. In a touching moment Tomas remembered Peter Kelly RIP, father of Pat grounding the celebrations in a most respectful fashion.
