Ray Cosgrove - Thanks for the Memories

Earlier this week Ray Cosgrove announced his retirement from the inter-county game. All true Dublin GAA Supporters will be saddened by this news as we will have no further opportunity to see a real legend of the modern game play in Blue.

Ray made his 1st senior appearance for the Dubs in 1999 but it will be his performances under Tommy Lyons, particularly in 2002, that will be most remembered. Cossy goaled in the Leinster final to see Dublin win their 1st title in 7 years & carried this form through to the All-Ireland semi-final where Dublin would lose out. However the return of 6-23 over the championship was an extraordinary feat and Dublin forwards for many years will struggle to reach this high for many years to come.

Ray’s performances in 2002 saw him deservedly receive an All-Star Award and he was also voted Supporters Club Player of the Year , 2002.

Ray continues to appear for his native Kilmacud Crokes where he has 2 Dublin & 1 Leinster Club championship medal.

Announcing his retirement Ray pointed to new family commitments as a determining factor. Typical of the man, there was no bitterness, no complaints, just best wishes for his colleagues for the summer to come.

Summer 2007 won’t be the same without you, but we’ll always have 2002.

Sorry to hear the news, You were great in the Blue Jersey on your day and you were great entertainment.
Hope the lads can go all the way this year and reach Sam, albeit by the back door.
Louth for Leinster!
