NFL - Dublin 1-15, Kerry 1-15

It was the day the Kilmadud Crokes class of 2009 returned & the day Kerry dropped their 1st league points of the season.  Before the throw-in there was an air of nervousness and for different reasons towards the end nerves were jangling all round.

The Dubs were best in the 1st half and went into the dressing room 0-09 – 0-07 ahead.  During this period Denis Bastick had perfomed brilliantly against Star Donaghy and was ably assisted by Alan Hubbard.  Darren Magee was a force in the middle while Crokes colleague Mark Davoren was a constant threat up front.  The 2nd half started well with Davoren finishing to the net & although Kerry did fight back a brilliant point by the roving corner back Henno would see the Dubs 6 points clear.  Kerry sub Michael Quirke made a difference in the middle, his sheer physique posing problems.  With less than 5 minutes left the Blues were 5 points clear when a hopeful ball from Kerry landed in to the square & with Star seeming to impede Stephen Cluxton, Aidan O’Mahony goaled.  When Donaghy finally beat Bastick a few minutes later his point had drawn the teams level.  Sub Alan Brogan seemed to have won the game but agonisingly his long range shot drifted late on the wind to hit the inside of the upright and bizarrely bounced back into play.

With Mayo beating Galway & Donegal beating Westmeath, the Dubs now drop into the relegation zone.  A win over Westmeath is a must and hope that results fall for us elsewhere to survive.
