U21FC - Dublin 0-12 Meath 2-05

Who said Dublin teams like making it easy on their fans as Jim Gavin’s U21s won out to reach the Leinster semi-final?  In truth the Dubs were much the better team throughout and should have won far more comfortably.  Two soft goals, one from a dubious penalty kept Meath in the game.  The penalty was awarded for the foul of handling the ball on the ground when it seemed to even neutrals nearby that the ball was in the air.

Around the field Dublin were led by a number who are setting reputations as future stars of the game.  At the back Hugh Gill, Jonny Cooper & Chris Guckian were excellent.  St. Jude’s Colm Murphy lauded it around midfield while Dean Rock up front was a constant threat.  However it was Paddy Andrews, 2006 Supporters Club Minor Player of the Year, who played a real leadership role.  He made himself available when he was really needed.  And when Meath drew level in the dying stages of the game Paddy won dirty ball & helped setup the winning score.

The Dubs play Westmeath in Parnell Park on Saturday, March 21.  Back to back wins at U21 level.  It could be a great year yet.
