NFL - Dublin 1-10 Monaghan 0-13

Dublin continued their unbeaten run in the NFL with a hard fought draw against Monaghan. Pillar was forced to make 2 changes to the team originally slected with Kevin Bonner & Paul Flynn coming in to replace the unavailable Alan Brogan & Barry Cahill, Bryan Cullen moved to #6 with lynn playing on the half forward line. In a very niggly game Dublin played the 1st half against the wind and found themselves 3 points down at half time. In this period Mark Vaughan & Jason Sherlock were subjected to some disgraceful treatment with Vaughan's freetaking suffering. It was Vaughan who pricked up a yellow card & early in the 2nd half he saw the line for a late challenge. Dublin score first but it was Monaghan who a pulled out to a 5 point lead 08-03.
Cometh the hour & up stepped Shane Ryan who dragged Dublin back into the game with a masterful performance in midfield. Quickly he led his charges to see David Henry score then Jayo getting onto a high ball set up Paul Flynn who blasted a goal home. Bernard Broan chipped in with a free & then Conal Keaney to see the Dubs up by four. At this time Ciaran Whelan was introduced for Bonner but bizarrely Ryan moved away from his position of dminance & Monaghan struck. Four late frees, some very soft, particularly given the unpunished challenges from the Farney Men through the game & Monaghan grabbed a draw. In injury time Cullen alao received a 2nd yellow & he too saw the line. Incredibly it was Dublin rather than Monaghan who finished the game with 13 men. However Pillar must take great heart from the courage of his charges who had turned the game around so magnificently & look forward to next Sunday's game in Crossmaglen.
