Crokes beat Vincents to reach SFC Final 2008

Kilmacud Crokes 2-11 St. Vincents 1-07

With the Dublin Management Team looking on, Mark Vaughan emphasised how important he can be to future Dublin teams with a confident display of deadball kicking & in so doing saw Crokes progress to the SFC final against Plunketts.

Vincents suffering the loss of Diarmuid Connolly through suspension, were also unable to start Tiernan Diamond, injured.

Crokes stated strongest with Mark Davoren a constant threat. Eoin Brady struggled to hold Davoren, especially when the #14 moved outfield to win posession.  Mossy Quinn was the dominant force for Vinnies with Willie Lowry, surprisingly lining out on the half forward line, the only Marino men to record scores.  It was Davoren who got the crucial score for the southsiders latching on to a pointed effort which dropped short firing to the net.  Vincents did manage to hold Crokes going in only 4 points down at h/t, one point of which came from a Tomas Quinn penalty which soared over the bar.

Crokes got out of the blocks 1st with Mark Vaughan to the fore, kicking over a sideline point, very reminiscent of Maurice Fitzgerald on that fateful day in Thurles.  Vincents were not beaten yet & when Mossy Quinn latched onto a Kevin Golden cross, he fired low & hard to the net.  Vinnies pushed on and had taken the lead to two points but a Pat Burke goal put the Southsiders into a final against Plunketts.
