Kilmacud Crokes SFC Champions 2008

Kilmacud Crokes 3-06 St. Oliver Plunketts/ER 0-13
A night of dispair for Plunketts in their 1st SFC final & a night of joy for Crokes who only scored twice in the second half but saw them head south with the trophy.

Crokes started the best with Mark Davoren causing huge problems for the Plunketts back line.  Mark Vaughan also wasdominant kicking another sideline point at the Clontaf GC side of the ground.  However with the Brogan trio of Alan, James & the superb Bernard in fine form the Northsiders were soon 2 points up. Enter the Bull & Jonny Magee, who's physical presence unsettled Plunketts throughout, goaled, diving & getting his hands to a fisted pass from Davoren & see Crokes ahead 1-06 to 0-07 at the interval.

Cometh the hour & so it was that Bernard Brogan took the game by the scruff, kicking 5 unanswered points & a 3 point lead for Plunketts with less than 10 minutes left.  Then the controversy: A pointed dropped short and lkike a cat Jonny Magee fisted it to the goal.  The Plunketts keeper leaned backwards to push the ball out before finally clearing it upfield.  But the umpires called the ref & after a brief discussion the goal was awarded & Crokes were level.  A few minutes later, another high ball, Mark Davoren fisted to the net again & despite cries for a square ball incredibly Crokes were 3 points ahead.  There was a short time left fro Plunketts to rally & although they did manage to pull 1 point back it was Crokes who win their 3rd title in 5 years.

A special word of praise to the Brogan family.  Bernard, his brothers & cousin were a credit to their club & the county & will surely see a Plunketts title in the not too distant future.

The 2 teams should take credit for a most entertaining game, the only disappointing note was the abuse being hurled at Dublin stars Mark Vaughan & Jason Sherlock by some idiots in the crowd.  Crokes progress to meet Barney Rock's Celbridge in the Leinster Championship.
