NFL - Dublin 1-12 Derry 0-20

The highs of the spirited finish against Donegal were quickly blown away as Derry destroyed Dublin in Saturday’s NFL encounter.  The score also faltered the Dubs as superb saves from Clucko kept Dublin in the game.

But it was the skill of the Bradley brothers which will be most remembered on the night.  With Eoin kicking some remarkable scores from over at the sideline.

The Dubs started strongest but once the Bradley’s found space they punished Dublin severely.  Eventually Paddy would retire after hitting the ground hard in a tackle.  At half time the Northerners were 2 points up but within no time after the throw in they had extended that lead to 6.

Pat Gilroy did respond with changes, Alan Brogan coming on for Kevin Bonner & Alan must still be kicking himself when he thinks back to his miss mid way through the second period when his goal attempt went over when it looked so much easier to hit the net.

Dublin’s bad luck continued throughout and lost possession on so many occasions through unforced errors.  The Dubs did put a gloss on the scoreboard when Ger Brennan netted with his right foot, proving he does have a right leg, but Derry were by far the better team on the night.

Soul searching now for the management team as they work out how to rebound against Mayo and build towards the summer.

One disappointing night was the sight of significant numbers of Dublin’s so called fans who chose to leave with more than 15 minutes left.  Your county needs your full support.  Get behind your team through the good and bad times.
